Jane Geist Photography

Welcome to Jane Geist Photography

My name is Jane Geist. In my heart, I have always been a reader and a writer. I love the emotions that arise in me with a particular combination of words. I love the cadence of a foreign language, or the thrill an accent can give. I love getting lost in a novel.  I love putting words together to create an image  However, it seems that in the past five years, my pen and my book have become my camera, and I am now digesting and producing images instead of stories.

Exploring this new dimension — photography — has shown me that sometimes, words are not enough.  Sometimes, the image itself stirs emotions that cannot be lassoed into language. And thus, viewing the photograph becomes intensely personal. Rebecca Solnit, author of Storming the Gates of Paradise: Landscapes for Politics, writes, “The Stars we are given. The constellations we make . . . constellations are the imaginary lines we draw between them, the readings we give the sky, the stories we tell.”

With the camera as my tool, I am able to create constellations which define me. I hope that you are able to have an intimate experience with my photographs and that you are able to make grand constellations for the telling of your own story.
